ElderSource raises $100,000 to feed hungry seniors
More than 5,000 seniors in Northeast Florida are on a wait list for hunger-relief assistance. Each day they’re forced to make heart-breaking choices: choosing between buying medicine or groceries or between eating lunch or dinner. Thanks to your generosity, we’re working towards solving this urgent and growing crisis!
ElderSource would like to thank everyone who donated to our Suppers for Seniors campaign! Because of your generosity, we have reached our goal of raising $50,000 to support older adults facing food insecurity in Northeast Florida. The Delores Barr Weaver Legacy Funds generously matched every donation, up to $50,000 toward feeding low-income seniors in our seven-county service area!
ElderSource made the direct ask to the community earlier in 2024 in response to growing number of older adults reaching out for support to put food on the table. American families have been feeling the crunch as the cost of food and goods rise, and it’s been especially difficult to navigate for older adults living on a fixed income. All funds raised through the Suppers for Seniors campaign will go toward providing home-delivered meals to older adults, such as Meals-On-Wheels. Staff will be reviewing the waitlist for home delivered meals and work with the provider agencies to assist the clients in need.

As the Aging and Disability Resource Center for Northeast Florida, ElderSource has always focused on connections, linking seniors with resources that enhance their lives. This is the first time in our five decades that we’ve made a direct ask like this to ensure our clients get the nourishment they need. Our hungry seniors don’t have time to wait.
